ABOUT THE MARTIN PERCIVAL SCHOOL OF IRISH DANCE

The school was established in July 2003, and has consistently grown in both enrollment and locations.  In 2006, we had approximately 125 students with locations in Denver, Boulder, Castle Rock, Frederick, Longmont, Littleton and South Aurora.  In 2007, the School opened a location in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although the School continues to grow in size and scope, the high standards set forth by Martin Percival remain constant. The school boasts a large number of highly advanced dancers claiming Local and Regional Championship titles as well as placing highly in National competitions. We recently had five of our champion dancers attend the World Championships held in Scotland. More recently, two of our dancers placed top 5 in the North American National Championships. Brendan Chisholm placed 5th and Levi Hatgi placed 3rd!

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
I view the instruction of Irish Dance as an art form and I am determined to maintain and raise the standard of Irish Dancing. Classes are available for competitive dancers as well as for those simply looking for a creative and enjoyable exercise option. Anyone with the desire to learn Irish dance can do so.  Whether an 85-year old man, or a five year old child, my goal is to provide realistic instruction based on the student’s needs and aims.

It gives me immense pleasure to be able to pass on my knowledge of Irish dance to my students.  I get great satisfaction every time a new student joins, a current student moves up a category, or when someone masters a particularly challenging movement.  I am proud of each and every one of my students.

Competition is an integral part of the learning process and it is through competition that most dancers hone their skills. It is not absolutely necessary to compete, but we are a competition-based school.

It is our hope that we can also provide students with the opportunity to perform in at least one recital per year.

The ultimate “Vision” for the school is to see the Martin Percival School of Irish Dance adequately represented on the international competition stage.

We are well on our way to becoming a prestigious Irish dance school in
Las Vegas and we strive to to be well renowned throughout the global Irish Dance community.

BENEFITS OF LEARNING TO DANCE
Some of the benefits provided by Irish dance are:

  • Body control and coordination
  • Stress relief and relaxation
  • Creative outlet
  • Discipline
  • Grace and poise
  • Competitive spirit and challenge
  • Exercise and improved health
  • Self confidence
  • Social ease and assurance
  • Meeting great people and having fun!

Please feel free to add your own!  The benefits vary from person to person. To be accomplished in any skill, we must first be introduced to the basics; they are the words we string together to make sentences.

Though music is a learned skill for all of us, it is intrinsic to dancing. While the basics are the words, music is the language itself. Our teachers can help students at any level develop a great sense of rhythm.

The technique of dancing is what separates our students from the rest of the crowd. Anyone can mix eggs, flour and sugar together, but only those who know the techniques behind baking can turn that into a cake. Anyone can hit keys on the piano, but when you learn the right techniques, you make music.
